Today we’re looking at the Pilot Capless Fountain Pen – also
known in the US as the Vanishing Point, a much better name in our opinion.
It was developed for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, so we thought
it would make sense to revisit it for GBs Olympic Year, remind everyone of
their existence or indeed inform you of their existence.
Unlike other Capless Fountain Pens such as the Lamy Dialog 3
this pen uses a push mechanism, unwitting users of this pen may be surprised when
a nib pops out the end…
Anyway, we filled it up with some Grenache Sailor Ink, and see
what this very small nib has to offer.
From first impressions looking at this pen, you might be let
to believe that it will be a bit unwieldy to write with, but nothing could be
further from the truth. Despite its rather bulky appearance, in the hand it
feels balanced and very comfortable.
The pen uses a relatively tiny 18 Carat Gold nib, which
works extremely well, it writes, absolutely beautifully, there’s a slight flex
in the nib, making it an extremely pleasurable experience. A cracker!
