Monsieur Notebooks Part 1
Having a look today at Monsieur Leather Notebooks.
These are fairly new on the scene, and as Leather Notebooks go,
they are pretty darn nice. Come in a pretty wide range of colours and in A6, A5
and A4 sizes.
They come complete with the usual amenities that you’d
expect from any decent notebook, an elasticated strap to hold them closed, and a
handy ribbon book mark.
One thing we were worried about was opening them flat, as
they didn’t appear to do this too well, however what they say is treat them
rough – as they are very well bound and can take it. Worked a treat!
Paper variety is also pretty good, ruled, plain and dotted
are your options, and with various grades of paper – from 90 gsm to the sturdy
140 gsm. The 100 gsm paper they claim is specifically for fountain pens, let
put them to the test!
First up – the Visconti Homo Sapiens, which is a very wet
pen.
- - Slight amount of feathering here and when we
turn the page over there is a far amount of bleed through.
Next, the Conway Stewart with a fine italic nib and the Conway
Stewart with Medium Italic Nib
- - Not quite as much bleed through as the Visconti
but still some
So on first impressions it struck us that you’re not really
going to be able to use both sides of the paper in this leather notebook unless
you don’t mind that little bit of bleed through.
Having said these are still a pretty good product, and we
haven’t even mentioned the extremely reasonable price tags!
